Las Vegas, Nevada
Overview
Las Vegas is located in the Mojave Desert and is the most populous city within the state of Nevada. Affectionately known as Sin City, it's like a playground for adults. But as the city has grown, to have the options for family-friendly activities. Known for gambling and upscale casinos, but there is so much more.
Often called The Entertainment Capital of the World, there is plenty to do and see throughout the city. This is one of the world’s best nightlife destinations, plays host to many shows and sporting events, as well as being a top location for business conventions and conferences due to a booming hospitality industry.

Las Vegas Things to Do and See
Sporting Events
Vegas has hosted many boxing and mixed martial arts super fights over the years, and continues to host many events throughout the year. The city is also home to the Vegas Golden Knights (NHL). With the addition of the Las Vegas Aces (WNBA) and the Las Vegas Raiders (NFL), Las Vegas is a prime location for sports fans.
Day Clubs
Day clubs in Vegas usually refers to elaborate pool parties that range from rowdy and raucous, laid back and relaxed, to the place to see and be seen. This is not a bunch of people sitting around a pool, but usually well laid out areas featuring several pools and world-class DJs. There is usually the option to reserve a cabana or day bed, and they even have bottle service.
Gamble of Course
Until recently, Las Vegas was the biggest gambling destination in the world. Now, it is second only to Macau, China. The great part about gambling here is the sheer variety. There aren’t too many games that you can’t find somewhere in the city. Sin City was one of the few places that legally allowed sports betting. Some states are allowing sports betting now, but Vegas is still the go-to place. Keep in mind that the table minimums can be a little high on the Strip, especially on weekends and holidays.
Catch a Show
Las Vegas lives up to the Entertainment Capital of the World moniker. With a variety of live shows almost every night of the week, it’s not hard to find something you will like. Whether it’s big-name singers, comedians, stage productions, or even circuses, there is something to give yourself a break from the gambling and partying. Of course, there are still productions featuring the showgirls that the city is known for.
Las Vegas Nightlife
Las Vegas has one of the most extravagant nightlife scenes in the world. Posh super clubs, world-famous DJs, special guest appearances, the chance to see your favorite celebrity, and VIP treatment are just part of the allure. Add in an abundance of smaller lounges or bars catering to every genre of music and it’s apparent that the city has something for everyone.
The downside to the nightlife is the sheer number of people that show up to events. At some of the more popular establishments, you can expect to wait in a long line to get in. And once you get in, it can be a long wait at a crowded bar to get a drink. My recommendation if you’re going to Vegas to party, go with a group of friends, pay for table service. Table service usually lets you skip the entrance lines and you don’t have to wait at the bar.
Tip: The Vegas nightlife can get expensive as well. At some of the plush super clubs, it’s not uncommon to pay a $50 cover charge and $20 for a drink. If you are there with a group of friends, you may find it more economical to just pay for table service.
Las Vegas Food
Las Vegas has some of the best places to eat in the world. With an almost endless supply of restaurants, buffets, and cafes, you’ll be sure to find something that you like day or night. Many world-renowned chefs have restaurants all over the city, especially in the casinos. You can also find restaurants offering international cuisines from all over the world as well as many regions of the United States.
The only slightly disappointing part is the fact that there aren’t any dishes that are unique to the city. You’re not going to say, “I can’t wait to get to Las Vegas to try…”
Las Vegas Cost
All of the glitz and glam of Las Vegas comes at a cost. I mean literally, having fun here is probably going to cost you a pretty penny. One obvious cost comes in the casinos, especially if you play the table games. The table minimum bets can get pretty steep and even more so on weekends and holidays. You can find lower table minimums off of the strip, but why come if you’re going to hang out off of the strip.
The bright spot is that you can usually find very nice hotel rooms for a decent price all around the city. And if you are a gambler, it pays to stay at one of the casino hotels. If you play enough, you may be able to have your room rate reduced or even comped for free.
Las Vegas Safety
Las Vegas is a generally safe place to visit. The city does have its rough spots, but you should be able to avoid any trouble if you stick to the Strip. There is usually a pretty pronounced police presence to make sure that nothing disturbs visitors’ good times or the cash flow that visitors bring in.
Pickpockets can be an issue, especially while you’re gambling. Make sure that you never leave a machine unattended while you still have money in it. Dealers and the cameras will watch your chips at table games, but still, at least take any big chips if you need to get up. Ladies, keep your purses closed and in front of you. Using common-sense safety practices like this can ensure your good time doesn’t get ruined.
