Let’s face it, as much as Auckland is a beautiful city, life can sometimes get expensive. The best amongst us also experience a period of financial uncertainty that forces us to save to the last penny. But it doesn’t mean you have to live in boredom. There are activities you can do for free like discover the wildlife of New Zealand in open parks.
On the other hand, if you may afford to fork out large amounts of cash every so often to keep you or your family entertained, it doesn’t mean you should do it when there are activities you can do for free. Read on to discover some creative ideas of things you can do to keep yourself going.
Take a Hike
Auckland has many spots where you can take leisurely walks or hikes. The best thing about these places is that you don’t have to pay a single cent! Hiking or walking will give you some relaxing time away from the hustle and bustle of the city as you concentrate on viewing breathtaking waterfalls or taking a glimpse at the cityscape.
Experience Live Music
There aren’t many cities in the world where you can experience live music at no cost. To experience a lively night out, be sure to put those headphones down and head on to Auckland’s music venues for a fun-filled night that you’ll live to remember.
Visit the Auckland Museum
Unfortunately for international visitors, free Museum visits are only eligible for locals. If you are one, ensure you carry your proof of address so that you don’t pay any entry fees. Learn about the history of Auckland and visit the nature corner for a fun learning experience.
Pass by the Wintergarden
Your trip isn’t complete until you’ve visited the Wintergarden. Once you’re done with the museum, take a lush walk across the greenhouses. When you come to the end of your journey, ask the goddesses overlooking the pond to bless you on your way back home.

As many as 53 volcanoes are waiting for you to climb and explore. Choose one and experience breathtaking views of the city.
Don’t forget the wildlife
Check into the Western Springs Park and get acquainted with the animals there. From the eels, geese, swans, sucks, and pukeko, you’ll have a fun day of interacting with the wildlife. You can also plan a trip to Goat Island and enjoy seeing the array of colorful fish swimming close to the shore.
